Facebook now ready allow GIFs in posts and status updates!

Setting aside its earlier argument of not allowing GIF’s in page posts and boosted newsfeed ads, for sake of weakening user experience, Facebook has now decided to allow their usage in a phased manner. Marketeers can now use these graphic interchange format images in their facebook page and ads but right now only a small percentage of Facebook pages are being allowed to run this functionality.

Engineers at Facebook are testing the waters by allowing GIF based advertising in ads and page posts. GIF content is already viral on twitter, Google+ but it is yet to take off on facebook inspite of auto-play videos being the most watched elements on Facebook.

The decision to allow GIFs was based on the data that was emerging from social networks that an animated video post had 3-5 times higher chances of being viewed and shared across social media channels. Creating sharable video content takes time money energy but not animated video content like GIFs that elicit the right responses from users. Increased user engagements will, in turn, boost facebook relevance score and increase impression share dramatically, reducing cost of reaching acquiring customers by 5-10%.

It’s a win-win situation…think about it!
